The Composition Project

What is it?

The Composition Project is a Classroom Practice Innovation Project (CPIP). This project is designed to create engaging learning experiences for beginner band students by working with a Canadian composer. Students will be working with the composer, teachers, and peers to create and perform music compositions. Throughout this learning experience, we will be integrating technology to allow for an engaging musical experience.

Who is it for?

The Composition Project is for
grade 6 band students at Senator Riley Middle

School.  The music created during this project will be shared with the community.

How long is it?

The Composition Project will run for two years starting during the 2019/2020 school year and ending in the 2020/2021 school year.

Meet the Composer

Michelle Pegus is a composer and middle school music educator who is collaborating with Senator Riley staff and students to help make the Composition Project a success! Michelle "acquired" her bachelor's degree in Music Education from Brandon University in 2013. In 2015 she successfully completed her graduate studies in Music Performance + Literature (Composition). Michelle looks forward to continuing writing music for whoever has the good taste to ask!
